Our mission at Seedling Psychological Services is to serve the underserved perinatal population and make mental health services accessible across diverse and marginalized communities by providing affordable care. Many of us at Seedlings have ourselves experienced perinatal struggles and found care hard to access, especially care that honors our unique experiences as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). Too many moms and parents suffer in silence during such a challenging and important experience. We want to be a part of the solution and make care accessible in counties and communities where there is a scarcity of perinatal mental health care. In doing so, our nonprofit will serve as a training site for graduate psychology students and offer student loan forgiveness to support the development of the incoming generation of clinicians.
The opportunities for serving these unreached communities are vast as the need is great and the barriers many: finances, providers who reflect these communities’ cultures, and stigma. We have been thoughtful so far about staffing that reflects the BIPOC communities we want to care for to reduce part of this barrier. We plan to do outreach to the communities directly and through providers who serve them. While the long term plan is to accept Medi-Cal and other state insurances across California, Oregon and Washington. Through Fundraising, we will be able to immediately help those who struggle financially to access care by offering at no cost services and sponsored support.
At Seedling Psychological Services, we value compassion, respect, and integrity. We strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for our clients and to treat each individual with the dignity and respect they deserve.
We take a holistic approach to therapy, considering the physical, emotional, and social factors that can impact mental health. Our goal is to help our clients develop the skills and resilience they need to navigate life's challenges.
Our team has specialized training in a variety of areas, including LGBTQ+ issues, cultural competency, and trauma-informed mental health care. We are committed to providing inclusive and affirming care to all of our clients.
